Howl-o-Ween Fun with your dog

If you're like us, we love including our dogs in the Halloween fun! There is nothing cuter than those crazy costumes!

But it is also important to keep your dog safe during this holiday as there are a number of things that could be dangerous for them. So here are a few handy things to keep in mind amidst all the fun.

1. Keep dogs away from the front door or at least on a leash. While little trick-or-treaters are coming to your door and you are handing out candy, even the best behaved dog is at risk for darting unexpectedly out the door in fear.

2. Make sure your dog can't get to the candy as it can be lethal. All forms of chocolate and even artificial sweeteners are dangerous for dogs and can even be toxic. Keep your candy bowl high enough up off of the ground to make sure you dog can't reach it when you aren't looking. If you are worried your dog might have eaten something, know the signs of toxicity which can include fast breathing, loss of coordination, diarrhea, vomiting, and seizures.

3. Bring your dogs in from the yard. Halloween brings the prankster out in a lot of people and you don't want your dog to be a target.

Aside from these few safety tips, just have fun! Halloween is a fun holiday for so many and with these recommendations, it can be fun AND safe for the whole family, including Fido!
