🐾 Welcome to July at the Ranch!
Summer is officially in full swing, and the ranch has been buzzing with zoomies, splash play, shady naps, and plenty of hilarious dog moments. While we love celebrating the Fourth of July, it's also one of the most important times of the year to help keep our pups safe and comfortable.
So grab a cold drink, give your dog a belly rub, and enjoy this month's ranch roundup!

🌿 True Dog Enrichment—Built Into Every Visit
At Dog Dude Ranch, enrichment isn't something we schedule—it's built into every moment of the ranch experience.
Enrichment isn't an add-on or an extra service—it's simply how dogs spend their day. From the moment they hop out of the car, they're immersed in a world of new sights, sounds, smells, and adventures that naturally engage their minds and bodies.
Every visit includes:
🐔 Watching chickens wander by and cats casually strolling around the ranch
🌳 Exploring 2.5 acres of fresh, natural grass beneath beautiful shade trees
🐾 Making new friends through supervised dog park-style group play
💦 Cooling off in sprinklers and misters on warm days
👃 Discovering new scents, textures, and experiences that stimulate their natural curiosity
❤️ Enjoying the freedom to run, explore, socialize, sniff, play, and simply be dogs
This rich, ever-changing environment provides physical exercise, mental stimulation, confidence-building, and healthy socialization—all included as part of every daycare and boarding stay. That's why so many dogs come home happy, fulfilled, and ready for a well-earned nap.

🐶 Things We've Actually Heard Dogs Say
(...if they could talk.)
"I wasn't digging a hole...I was conducting important yard research."
"I only bark because nobody else is explaining what's happening."
"Yes, I know there are 200 balls. I want THAT one."
"I heard a snack bag open from two acres away."
🎆 Fourth of July Safety Tips

While fireworks are exciting for us, they're often frightening for our dogs.
Here's how to help your pup enjoy a safer holiday.
🏠 Keep Dogs Indoors

Even dogs that normally never run away can panic when fireworks begin.
Close gates.
Secure doors.
Double-check collars and ID tags.
Make sure microchip information is current.
🎵 Create a Calm Environment
Help drown out fireworks with:
✔ TV ✔ White noise ✔ Fans ✔ Soft music
Many dogs feel safest in a quiet bedroom or crate with their favorite blanket.
🦴 Exercise Before the Fireworks
A long walk or play session earlier in the day helps burn energy and may reduce anxiety later that evening.
❤️ Stay Calm Yourself

Dogs look to us for reassurance.
Speak calmly. Avoid forcing them to "face their fears." Sometimes simply sitting beside them makes all the difference.
💊 Ask Your Veterinarian
If your dog has a history of severe anxiety during fireworks, speak with your veterinarian before the holiday about medications or calming supplements.
☀️ Summer Heat Can Become Dangerous Quickly

Dogs don't cool themselves like people do. Heat exhaustion can develop much faster than many owners realize.
Warning Signs
⚠ Heavy panting
⚠ Thick drooling
⚠ Bright red gums
⚠ Weakness
⚠ Vomiting
⚠ Confusion
⚠ Difficulty walking
⚠ Collapse
If you notice these signs:
✔ Move your dog into shade or air conditioning.
✔ Offer cool (not ice-cold) water.
✔ Wet paws, belly, and body with cool water.
✔ Contact your veterinarian immediately.
Heat stroke is a true emergency.
🥵 Hot Pavement & Artificial Turf

Here's a simple rule:
If it's too hot for your bare hand for seven seconds...
It's too hot for your dog's paws.
Sidewalks, asphalt, and artificial turf can become dramatically hotter than the surrounding air.
Whenever possible:
🌳 Walk early morning or evening.
🌱 Choose natural grass whenever you can.
👣 Check the ground before every walk.
And a play day at the ranch with our fresh, natural grass and trees is always a great bet!
Your dog's paws will thank you.
💦 Beware of Standing Water or Pools
Puddles, stagnant ponds, and dirty pools may contain harmful bacteria or parasites like Giardia.
Illnesses like Giardia can cause:
• diarrhea
• vomiting
• stomach upset
• dehydration
Whenever possible:
✔ Don't allow your dog to swim in pools where other dogs swim as they can spread germs or parasites
✔ Bring fresh drinking water.
✔ Discourage drinking from puddles.
✔ Rinse your dog's paws after muddy adventures.

🐶 Summer Ranch Tip
One of the reasons we love our ranch is that our pups enjoy:
🌳 Beautiful shade trees
🌱 Real grass
💨 Fresh outdoor air
💦 Sprinklers and misting areas instead of pools for safety
Plenty of opportunities to stay cool while having fun with friends.
😂 Dog Joke of the Month

Have a safe, fun, and tail-wagging July!

🐾 P.S.
Your dog would like to remind you that:
• They definitely need another daycare day.
• Every stick belongs to them.
• Belly rubs should never have an ending.
Happy Fourth of July! 🎆
