Good Morning, Ranch Family

The dogs do not believe in easing gently into the day.

As soon as the morning begins, friends are reunited, new playmates are greeted and the ranch quickly fills with the sounds of paws racing across the grass, collars jingling and plenty of enthusiastic barking.

Our team makes time to greet, pet and check in with the dogs as they settle into their morning routines. Some pups are ready to run immediately. Others prefer a leisurely stroll, a good sniff around the yard or a few extra scratches before joining the fun.

Every dog has their own idea of the perfect morning—and we love getting to know them all.

A Serious Game of Tag

In the video, you may notice two dogs engaged in a very important ranch activity: chasing each other around like tiny professional athletes with absolutely no finish line.

Dogs often use chase games as a playful way to socialize, exercise and communicate with one another. One dog takes the lead, the other follows and then—because dog rules are delightfully flexible—they switch roles and begin all over again.

No trophies are awarded, but everyone seems extremely proud of themselves.

Real Grass, Shade Trees and Room to Explore

One of the things that makes mornings at the ranch so special is the environment.

Dogs have the opportunity to spend time outdoors on real grass, explore new scents and relax beneath beautiful shade trees. Our supervised dog park-style group play gives them room to move, socialize and simply enjoy being dogs.

Some mornings are filled with zoomies and wrestling matches. Others include quiet moments under a tree, curious sniffing expeditions or a peaceful break beside a favorite friend.

There is no single way to enjoy the ranch.

Even the Chickens Make Their Rounds

Of course, the dogs are not the only residents with a morning schedule.

Our chickens can often be seen wandering around the property, inspecting the grounds and generally behaving as though they are in charge of quality control.

They are an important part of the ranch scenery—and possibly the most serious members of the neighborhood watch.

Why Morning Play Matters

A fun and active morning gives dogs an opportunity to exercise their bodies, engage their senses and enjoy positive social time with other dogs.

Play can also provide valuable mental stimulation. Every new scent, sound, friend and patch of grass gives a dog something interesting to investigate.

At Dog Dude Ranch, enrichment is not a separate activity added to the day. It happens naturally through movement, exploration, social interaction, affection and the freedom to experience the outdoors.
